Jacmel could easily be considered a twin city of New Orleans. Like New Orleans, Jacmel's most popular tourist event is
the annual Mardi Gras on carnival.
The trip to Jacmel is a picturesque two-hour drive from Port-au-Prince. This quaint Victorian Village on Haiti's south coast has the best preserved example of late 19th century
architecture reminiscent of New Orleans.
Jacmel is also proudly known as the "The Handicraft Center of Haiti". In many beautiful and shaded garden you will find artists producing creative and practical goods that
are irresistible, but best of all affordable. Jacmel artists are master recyclers. They use paper mache and pounped metal to create their original handicrafts.
